December 2025: Jacob Hemeon (Blue Economy Intern, 2025) Describes His Experience Working in the Aluru Lab

Jacob Hemeon joined the Aluru Lab in spring 2025 through the Blue Economy Internship Program, a joint effort that brings Cape Cod Community College students to Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution for hands-on research experience. In an article that he wrote for the Cape Cod Regional Stem Network, Jacob describes his experience working with zebrafish as a model to study the effects of microplastics on gut inflammatory processes, as well as how he became acclimated to the day-to-day life in a research laboratory. It was a pleasure to host Jacob in the lab. For those interested in the program, visit the link here: CCCC Blue Economy Internship Program.
